    Salt Setting on 5600 Econominder

Dittohead, Thanks for the information. And yes, those are the correct numbers according to a water analysis. So, does this mean that I should set the salt dosage is set at 18 lbs behind the valve housing? Was the sales associate incorrect about the salt dosage being 3x the indicator...

    Salt Setting on 5600 Econominder

Finished installing a 64k Fleck 5600 Econominder. After reading the install instructions, I set the dial with water hardness (20) and people (6); however, the salt setting label on the cover mentions that it is set at 18lbs. I read a couple of posts and used Gary's calculator to locate the...

    Water consumption increase?

Found the source of the increase in water Found the source of the water increase...it was a leak right past the water meter. I just did not see it because of the surruonding mulch and recent rain. Thanks for all your help, guys. It's nice to have access to a site like this--25 years ago...

    Water consumption increase?

Sorry for the confusion. The 2.5 cu.ft is the number for the new softener I am considering. I put in 1.25 cuft in the 10x44tank, so I am at capacity. The reading near the bloc is .5gpm and 1.5 lb salt/min. Hardness is 22 avg , no iron or manganese. 5 adults + 1 infant.

    Water consumption increase?

The system is a Fleck 5600 controller (metered) with a 10x44 tank, 48,000 grain. The manual specs reference 2.4, .45, 2.4 and .5 GPM for backwash, brine draw, rapid rinse and brine refill, respectively. The only thing I moved when I replaced the resin was what appeared to be the salt setting, a...

    2510SXT vs. 7000SXT

I was leaning towards the 7000 until the salesperson indicated that they have been having problems with that valve. The 2510 is $915 and the 7000 is about $750 with 2.5 cuft resin. Have you been having problems with the 7000? Is the 2510 a better valve?

    Water consumption increase?

I increased my salt setting from 6 to 10 lbs. my water softener is undersized so it regens every 3-4 days. I think it was about once a week with the old setting. My water bill almost doubled! Yikes! How much water does a regen cycle consume? I checked for a leaky pipes and all looks ok. I think...

Still seeing a bit of resin...

Prior to adding the gravel, do I remove some resin since it is about 2/3 full? Thanks.

Still seeing a bit of resin...

Yes, it is from a turbulator. Which is the best and easiest way to remove the resin from the tank, so I can rebed with gravel? Unfortunately, I have two water heaters--both are located in the attic. I am just trying to keep this unit for another year or so before I buy the new one.

Still seeing a bit of resin...

I am a still seeing a little bit of resin coming from the kitchen faucet. I can only think that I did not tighten the screws of the bottom basket enough. How tight should they be? I remember there was a black ball inside and I only tightened the screws so there could be some play on the ball...

    Salt setting?

Seems this topic is delicate. Is there a general consensus that my system is undersized? If so, using the same valve, could I just buy a bigger tank, DT and more resin? If so, what size tank? I ask because water around here is expensive!

    Salt setting?

Wow! That was informative and very helpful. Thanks. The water softening business sounds promising. Is there a basic course/training?

    Salt setting?

The current setting is 8/10. I rebedded with about 1.25 cf of resin...that was going about an inch above the turbolator DT as suggested by Gary, which is about 2/3 full. The system is a Fleck 5600 controller (metered) with a 10x44 tank, 48,000 grain . Does setting it at a higher rate cause it...

    Water too high

I found the retainer. I am going through the start up sequence And during the brine rinse cycle I noticed it keeps going and going and does draw from the brine cabinet as described in the manual. I have not added the salt yet.

    Water too high

I performed the first test reco by ditto head and there it was...the brine line was leaking at the connection to brine assembly. Here's the somewhat bad part. The plastic flanged retainer fell into the float assembly. Let me dig it out and I'll keep you posted.

    Water too high

Only one regen since the rebed. Which part of the cycle is brine refill (backwash, rinset etc.)? The manual that they included three years ago was very limited. I'll post a picture of the valve.
