Brass P-Trap to Cast Iron DWV

Hi Jerry - How is the brass connected to the galvanized? The P-trap isn't threaded. I was anticipating screwing the threads into the CI and then sweating the P-trap on. Thanks, Derek

Brass P-Trap to Cast Iron DWV

Hi - Yeah, I think it's something like that. That's a slip fit though, right? My P-trap is brass. -Derek

Brass P-Trap to Cast Iron DWV

Sounds good, thanks for the help. Do they make the adapters I'm looking for in brass, or is copper the way to go?

Brass P-Trap to Cast Iron DWV

Hi Ron - The wall's pretty much closed up now, so I don't think I'd be able to get anything to come out clearly. I think the installation is pretty standard though. It's a 4" CI stack that runs up through the 7 floors of an apartment-type building. The pipe has a female threaded inlet for...

Brass P-Trap to Cast Iron DWV

Hi Everyone - What is the correct way of joining brass to a cast iron stack? Does the connection from a sink P-trap (brass) to cast iron need to be dielectric? My condo is in a high-rise type building, so code states that a PVC trap isn't an option for me. Also, does cast iron dwv...

    Vacuum Breaker Issue

I'll just go without it then. Even hand tight is enough to block the flow when the washer is in there. Looking at it, I don't see how it could possibly work with the washer in...

    Vacuum Breaker Issue

Vacuum Breaker Hi - The vacuum breaker is an Alson's 4900. (http://www.alsons.com/accessories/hoses/products/docs/ACC_VB_4900_instr.pdf) The only thing I'm not sure of is whether the washer is only for sealing purposes, or if it functions as part of the breaker (and therefore isn't...

    Vacuum Breaker Issue

Hi Guys - I just finished installing a hand shower and had had some issues with the vacuum breaker. Every time I tightened the breaker to the supply elbow with the washer included, the washer would compress down against the slits, and would prevent the water from coming through the breaker...

Issue with hand shower and finished wall depth

With the longer nipple, it's not an issue of tightness. It literally protrudes out too far from the wall, leaving the brass exposed. Even when I dry-fit the elbow, it doesn't come anywhere close to being flush against the wall. With the shorter nipple, the elbow comes off with a half-turn...

Issue with hand shower and finished wall depth

No, not that the nut would cut the threads, but that by cutting the pipe without establishing additional threads, not only do I now have less mating surface, but the taper starts as a wider OD. Especially since this is going to be behind the wall, I want to make sure that I'm not going to run...

Issue with hand shower and finished wall depth

Hi - There may be nipples with straight threads, but these are NPT. From what I've read, sealing threads are NPT, where engineering (structural) threads are straight, for strength. That's why I was hesitant to use a nut. It might fit, but it won't cut a taper.

Issue with hand shower and finished wall depth

Hi - Will I run into an issue because the threads on the pipe are tapered and the ones on the nut are straight

Issue with hand shower and finished wall depth

Hi everyone - I just finished tiling my shower and am in the process of putting the hand shower in. The only problem is that the 1.5" brass nipple I was planning to use is too short, and the 2" comes out too far, such that the chrome adapter will no longer sit flush to the tile. I haven't...
