    Neutralizer bed turned to rock

Have been using the neutralizer for over 30 years, never a problem. When the bed gets low (calcite), would clean it out and refill. This time, found my ph low so opened it up only to find it hard as a rock. Current bed has been there for probably close to 8 years. The unit is plumbed to...

Doing away with green sand filter, have ? on reusing tanks

We had a well with high iron which was treating with a neutralizer and green sand filter, which did a fine job. We recently have replaced the well and, thank God, no longer have the iron problem but still would like to treat the acidic water. My concern is that either of the existing tanks have...

    irrigating pump from creek?

I have a Goulds irrigator 2hp pumping from a creek which is tide effected. It sits about 2 feet above high tide, been there for close to 20 years. Been under water several times over the years and still runs fine. I remove the suction and drain it each fall, primes on one filling in the spring.

    Shallow well high head ?

Thanks to you all for your the input. If my casing would handle a submersible, it would have been in there years ago. In general, a half horse has been providing sufficient water. I was just looking for advice when it is time for replacement, is there much to be gained from a half horse...

    Shallow well high head ?

Currently our home well has a .5hp sw pump. When it is time to replace it I was thinking of going with a .5 sw high head pump to get a bit more pressure, and better performance at the higher pressures. Any advice pro or con on this?

Carrier humidifier uses too much water

Another thing to check for is that there is an orifice to limit the flow. Be sure it was not removed, or enlarged, by someone due to restricted flow.

    Gutter guards

I have used several, Gutter Guard, Gutter Helment, Leafguard, and the Gutter Brush. Gutter helment does a fine job, but due to the size has a different look that some folks don't like. But, I found they did a good job. Gutter Guard, by Dixie builders, also works fine. It has a larger...

Thinking of replacing a Goulds Irri-Gator

Hard to tell from the photo, but it does not look like the low voltage control wires are attached to the contactor.

Do not believe you will find that building code allows the stove under a window. Looks like you could vent through the roof.

    Bathroom heat question

I would take the issue past Manual J. You can have a well balanced system and still have a cold bathroom, especially if on a slab, with hot air heat, and the bathroom on an outside wall. Another consideration would be heat lamps in the ceiling, which give you a warm feeling immediately...

    1984 A/C replacement

If you are going for a higher efficency unit, you will most likely find you will have to change the line size. Also, you will probably find that unless you are going with a heat pump, or changing the heater and AC, you will not qualify for the refund.

    Outrageous furnace repair charges

The first question should be, "Why did the transister go bad?" Could be on board, or off board, or just a weak transistor.

    General Ionics greensand filter parts

Gary, Thanks, I will look around and see what I can find locally. They had told me to remove a small float assembly (which is hidden behind the vertical output pipe) which is in the PP pickup/refill line and connect the open solution tank directly. With the open solution tank, does it...

Gary, I found the remains of Gen. I., seems that the vessel I showed you was discontinued many years ago. They claim that anyones "open solution" tank will work. Can you give me any direction? Paul
