Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

Yep. Had to do it with the toilet flange. I think I'll do that here. I don't want to return old galvanized that already clogged up. Will like do the 2" w the 2 x 1.5 flush bushing inside it then build from there. I like that. I will say that galvanized is in at a crazy angle which adds to me...

Yeah I'm thinking this is the way. Don't really like the idea of buttoning up galvanized that's 57 yrs old.

Alright. After a 45 it looks like more galvanized that's then leaded into a cast iron hub. Thoughts?

Seems to be what happened. The hub moves around now.

Yeah now with the hub it's in moving around not sure where better is. Guess it's more slab removal later this week.

Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

Not sure what's right there. Guess I'll chip away at the slab to see what I can reveal. Figured I'd just call in a local sewer specialist and see of they'd dealt w anything like this before. Here's a pic of what the inside of the pipe looked like BTW for your pleasure.

Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

Ok now I think I have a bigger problem. That fitting the pipe is connected too is now wobbling and moving and it wasn't before.

Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

I'll give that a try in a bit. Kind of want to resort to cutting it but obviously better if I don't.

Oh I'm nervous alright. Wrench on it just crushed it.

Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

Alright. I can not get this piece of galvanized to unscrew. I cut off the p trap and am trying to spin it from that end. All I've accomplished is crushing the pipe. I've used penetrant and heat but it remains stuck. What's the next best approach to remove this? Should I cut it closer, then make...

Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

Yeah I measured the pipe and it's 2" I didn't realize the trap is a 2 x 1 1/2. I'm going to chip away a lil more concrete so I can see the hub face. Hopefully unscrew the pipe, clean the thread up and the get a threaded 2" pvc piece in there. Then a bushing to 1 1/2 and then some tube and a p trap.

Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

Always something to learn. I'm going to try and untreated it later. Thankfully if I have to break more slab back I won't end up in the kitchen and will be relieved to get rid of the galvanized.

Thanks I'm familiar w the donuts but how do I removed the galvanized pipe from it of it is not threaded? I can't see and lead/oakum connection

Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

Thanks Terry. And does that mean it's not a threaded connection? I'd hate to break up more slab but I can if need be. I had good luck using the 4 inch hub for my toilet in this same room at your suggestion. I was hoping with this I'd hit it with penetrant and the get a big wrench, maybe even...

Method of removing lead joint from cast iron hub

I had to do this the other day on 4 inch. I found drilling holes and prying out w a flat head to work decent. I don't want to recommend it but I also used a chisel tip on a hammer drill (Hilti) to help loosen it up. Once I'd got about 3/4 maybe a lil less of the lead cleaned out I was able to...

Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

Jeff. I dug back under the slab a little and not too many inches in is a hub. You think the moved should be to unscrew the galvanized and replace with PVC from there?

Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

Yeah this house was built in 1965 so I don't know why there's even Gal there considering. Maybe someone getting rid of what was left at the shop. There's other cast iron under the slab. I can't even envision how it ties into the toilet drain to the right of it. I think I'm going to cut it. Any...

Cutting old galvanized to couple to new brass or PVC P trap. Nervous.

Thank you. I'll get it cut and do my best to clean the OD. I hope the ID doesn't look too terrible but it'll be informative. I wish the previous owner had just got all this addressed before putting a new kitchen on top of all of it. If it looks real bad on the ID I may see about having someone...

Oh that is galvanized? Does that make my situation better or worse? I'm kind of selling myself on just cutting it and going to fernco to pvc. Thoughts?
