    Urinal rough in

I always like to have a chunk of sched 80 2" PVC on hand with a fairly loose running thread on it kicking around the truck. That way you can cut a super close nipple out of it for urinals. Just use lots of dope and teflon. It's tricky to make the thread without busting the pipe, but if you open...

Any tips for removing old metal basin

But if it's gotta go, can you chain 'er up and get a come-a-long or chain fall and rig it up to the ceiling? Lifting it out might be easier than digging it out.

Any tips for removing old metal basin

Does your remodel require to remove the whole thing? If it's cast iron, a sledge hammer may take care of it. If you're putting in a new sump, you might be able to put it inside the old one and just bust out the parts of the old tank that you need to.

    Valve Recommendation

Use a globe valve. Gate valves, like ball valves are best not used for throttling applications, because they wear out.

Ok to use 90 degree bend in 1 1/2" drain?

Up here in Canada, it's OK to use a 90 on a trap arm, and only a trap arm. You should be good to go.

Venting through a double Wye Tee

You've got an S-trap there which would allow your toilet to self siphon.

    How to solder correctly

Didn't clean right, didn't flux right or use right flux, torch too hot, not hot enough, wrong solder....... One or more of those. Give us more info on what you're doing.

    Draining Tank Lots Sediment!

Oh dear..... I once replaced a gas fired hot water tank that had sympyoms like this. With the addition of steam coming out of the b-vent. The temp/pressure relief valve had plugged solid, and the water was actually boiling in the tank. The heat exchanger was pooched (CO2 poisoning) and the tank...

Water odor problem at only one sink

Why supply tube odor? Just wondering what kind of supply tubes, and why the bad odor/taste? From deteriorating plastic absorbing the waters impurities, or what? Educate a fellow plumber on this one please. And thanks.

    Angle for Drain Line Connection.

Are you talking "slope" of the new pipe? 1/4" per foot if the pipe is 3", 1/8" per foot if it's 4". And, yeah, use a wye fitting and a 45 elbow to do the tie in, not a tee. Good luck, and have fun!

    Washer Valve Box Questions

I remember a while back when a woman "handyperson" that was not a plumber asked a similarish question and everybody jumped down her throat saying she had no business going plumbing work and charging for it if she didn't know what she was doing. Just an observance. But you did seem to make a...

    Sink Trap Leak

If you didnt glue the "wall-side" 90 part absolutely straight it will leak no matter how hard you tighten it. When you glued it on, did you use a level, or just eyeball it? Check it for level across the 90. If it's out of whack, you might have to cut 1/8" to 1/4" out of the pipe coming out of...

    Can someone check my layout?

Wet vent Take a 3x2 Wye off the 3" line for the W/C and head to the lav with it. Take a 2" wye off that line and head to the tub with it. Now you've wet vented the W/C and tub through the lav. Do a seperate 3x2 wye off the main for the washing machine. The way I see your layout, you'll have...

Yet another single to double vanity question

There's nothing wrong with the second drawing you show. There's no reason to have that second vent. Just make sure the height of the vent line is above the flood level rim of the pedestals before you go horizontal with it. Have fun!!

    Broken threaded end of pipe

The hacksaw ways the way to go. Cut through the broken piece in two places, about a 1/4" apart. Don't cut 100% of the way through and screw up the internal threads. 99%'s good. Use a 1/4" wide flat crewdriver to pry out the little piece between the two cuts. Once that piece is out, the...

    Correct Fittings

Cut them off 1 1/4" away from the finished wall, or back of cabinet. When you put on the chome escutcheons and compression angle stops you won't see any copper, and will have the correct insertion distance for the copper into the stop. Have fun, and don't forget to turn your water off before you...

Re- gluing ? re-melting PVC w/ PVC solvent

Yeah, when somebody's out there charging people for a service that they can't provide without going to the internet, well that's just wrong. And gives the real professionals a bad name. Let's all go buy some old Time/Life books at a yard sale and call ourselves electricians!:D But the stories...

Really, really, really, big pipes in hot water heating system

Pumps? Depending on the piping system, this large diameter thing you have going could be really efficient. One component to check out might be the pump(s). If this was an older conversion from a gravity system, the pump(s) might be a big power draw. I'd get a pump dude over to have a look. Make...
