I had an issue with the the smell of sewer gas in a recently purchased home. I had a smoke test performed and it showed smoke passing through the vent stack, the condensate drain and into the heat and air unit. The plumber cut and capped the line and suggested adding a trap. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to accomplish this? I'd prefer not to drain to the vent stack, but I'm not sure I have another option. I can't access the area behind the unit.

Not a pro...

Is there a bathroom down there somewhere? If so, it may be possible connect under the vanity (before the trap)...
