Removing Old Tub Spout

Hi All,

I'm updating our bathroom fixtures and looking to remove an old tub spout that is built into the cast iron tub. The plan is to replace it with an overflow and mount the new fixtures on the wall above the tub.

In an effort to keep from cracking the cast iron tub I need some advice on removing the old spout.

See pictures from front and back of tub below.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You may try putting a pipe, a handle or a screw driver into the spout and see if you can spin that off.

Unfortunately it won't budge. Is it plumbers putty holding it in place? Anything I can sprat it with to loosen?

I have seen many recommend PB Blaster. It would get sprayed on the rusty threads a few times with time to soak in.

You have to loosen the "locknut" in back of the tub first. Usually the spout opening is too low or small to be used for an overflow.
