Terry,

This one really chaps my shorts today....

On thursday around 11am I am carrying a bucket full of tools and a ladder up a flight of stairs and out of a customers basement...
The phone rings and I answer on my blue-tooth, I simply say "weilhammer plumbing" then after about a 10 second pause I hear a voice say .......... is the the plumber???
I repeat .... YES..... this is the plumber, what do you need sir???? At that point the person says ......never mind I will just go somewhere else.....and hangs up...click

being half way up a flight of stairs, I simply think that was probably another salesman wanting to sell me insurance or something,,,,,and I just let it slide......

About 2 hours later I get an e-mail on my phone that " mr dickhead" has left me a review on google.... so I get on line and check it out.... the guy says I was rude to him on the phone and gives me a one star review....

Now , because of this clown whom I have somehow offended in less than 10 seconds, my score on google has dropped from 4.9 to 4.8 .....

I have flagged the complaint and have replied back to the person but I guess it will probably stand even though in my opinion it is rather a hateful thing to do after you hang up on someone who was willing to stop everything he was doing and listen to your troubles.

Now-days I suppose even a solicitor could leave a bad review with you on google if you are short with them, you are busy, or refuse to listen to their whole sales pitch...or you just say no thanks ......

You got to be candy-ass sweet even to salesman or they could do this and get away with it....

What do you think Terry????..

It's a user review. It's not a criminal record served by a federal judge.

If you don't like what people can write about you on facebook, angies, craigslist, airbnb, yelp, ebay feedback, even here on terrylove, then distant yourself from anything where you can be instantly defamed. I am very sure the ToS you clicked "I agree" on sign-up means Google doesn't have to remove anything for you at all.

When it is 110ºF and my phone is ringing every 5 minutes, and I am in an un-ventilated attic leaving a wet trail of sweat on everything I touch, I too will be "very rude answering the phone". The client has the option to either hang up in my face and bake in their oven, or have me come over to turn their home into a fridge.

There are many contractors/businesses that don't give a rats arse what others negatively write/say about them. I'm one of them. I know what I am made of with the quality service I provide, and anyone that folds over me is welcome to the next guy that will give them shoddy work and then call me back to fix it.

I agree with your atitude... and I know its only a user review.
and a very petty one at that......

the high ranking on Google, Angies List bring us a lot of calls....
We get a whole lot of FREE CALLS just from folks glancing at the high level of positive reviews...
its basically a cash cow that is far better than advertiseing in yellow pages.

Facebook is good.......Free is good .......compared to what we have paid YP
over the past years this is like being in the land of milk and honey....

..... The pettiness simply annoys me, considering there is no way to judge the
quality of your work by a very short phone conversation......

and as you stated .... I hope he found himself a hack to get the job done.....

I just saw this Mark,
I feel for you. So like me, the people that you do work for give you 5's.

But sometimes we get calls that we don't always connect with, and those people can be so hard on us. I would love to watch them working all day and grade them at their work. It hardly seems fair that the people we haven't worked for can even grade us. But it takes all kinds, and when I read some reviews, I don't judge the business, I laugh at the reviewer.
The last part of this year I had two like that. My Yelp email was going to an email I don't even check. I saw the correspondence way too late. And then there was a guy that called on a Friday afternoon, mentioning something about a job that was "only" fifteen minutes and could we come right over? It's not a good idea to tell someone you will pay for 15 minutes of work right before the weekend, and after we've already put in a very full week is going to get you much. However, the people we are doing work for.......give us five stars. But you can't please everyone.
The new line is,
"How are you going to make me happy?"
Just makes me think, I'm not a mental health counselor. I just do plumbing.
That line just means, How cheap can I get you for?

Did you see the South Park episode this year, "You're not Yelping?"

A little off color blip of it here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You're_Not_Yelping?previous=yes

And just for kicks I looked up some of my favorite restaurants on Yelp. Some of the comments were laughable.

"The one star is for the decor alone. Not even being sarcastic-- I seriously love dated 70s style. The golds, dark greens & browns. Good stuff. But if you're wanting a place that has been remodeled or updated at least once since they opened seemingly some 40 years earlier, this isn't the place."

We have lunch here every so often. One star based on he didn't like the color of the walls? Give me a break!

I, for one, never depend on online ratings. They are usually made by people that had a problem. The people that had good service rarely rate online.

I've had a few prank reviews on kudzu.com, my only advertising source. Bad behavior on the part of someone who doesn't care what kind of damage he might do to an honest tradesman.

I turned down some work one time. It's been a while, but it seems that it was either too far away or something I don't do.

Well, she wrote me up a bad review, then posted a LINK to the company that she actually got to do the work IN MY REVIEWS!

Thanks, lady.

Kudzu pulled it after I complained.

This is totally unfair, but we have to accept the fact that there are people like them. I suggest you to get a help from a Reputation management Specialist who can handle this kind of situation and help you clean your reputation online. Good luck.

Like the ten seconds you took to presume I am unlicensed and that my workers are morons?

You claimed that all yourself in your first post....
you said you only worked as an apprentice for one season and now you were running a business
you told everyone you were just an apprentice running a business.... there was nothing I presumed here.....

and you said you were not doing a good job of it...
you claim you are extremely forgetful and cant remember your schedule...
and you have to take and drop off you helpers to each job because they did not drive,,
,,

It took me about 2 minutes to read your original post ,
and its not too hard to see whats going on here.....

So what is the name of your plumbing company?? Crack Pipe Plumbing??

Lay off the sauce for a while and you might not be so forgetful..

lets just call it a day here ok??

KARMA IS A BITCH.I said I have been a plumber for thirty years after my apprenticeship. In those days S African apprenticeships were highly recognized. Incidentally I have two trades of which I am qualified .I am also a tool jig and die maker . But will readily admit I was only qualified for six months before leaving and starting an apprenticeship as a plumber. (You dont get enough experience in six months even in a easy trade like plumbing)
I would say I only felt truly comfortable in my trade as a plumber after about seven years running my own business and I am still learning something new every day.
I neglect my paperwork and thats why my business suffers not because I am unlicensed.
I asked for help on this forum and you Sir are just arogant and ignorant of the world and situation around you.
Try asking a question on a S African forum. You will be welcomed with open arms .We are a warm bunch. I will just assume you are just a bad example of the caliber of human that presides in the States as everyone else tried to help me ,not insult me.
Lets call it quits I agree but secretively I suspect you know you overstepped the line.

Thank the Lord your NOT in NYC calling my number

A man called yesterday and said "I have a leak how much to fix it" I shot back with my favorite sarcastic answer saying " I want to buy a car how much will it cost"?

The guy said I understand I wass just looking for a ball park figure I said ok here is one from left field $50,000 PLUS

He said WHAT I said you hand me $50,000 and when I reach $49,750 I stop working until you give me another $50,000 . He laughed and said ok come over and I said No way, I do not work for idiots and hung up

Someone from Angie's list called several weeks ago stating I had a very good write up and would I consider paying to get more hits. I said drop dead as I do not pay for advertising and Angie lost all credibility by asking me to pay as it is a conflict of interest.

I have been very successful in business and being possibly one of the nastiest, most sarcastic , loud mouth plumbers you can imagine and yet I take a lot of pride in my work so being a nice guy really doesn't amount to much when people want quality that is the real bottom line. It is that jerks loss that he went some place else. Consider it a gift as working for these types of morons will only aggravate you in the long run

Hey, its ok... if I misread your post on another thread then I am sorry about that

I dont know what or why you carried on like this to find the need to even jump threads to poke sarcasm at
me over something that was started on another thread....

so why would you not post on the original thread??
If you dont start something then there would not be something....

Over the years, most of the people that I have had working for me
would be considered by many to be morons and tools.. like shovels and picks.

Many of them could not make it into work for whatever reasons and most of them
have never made anything of themselves even living in a wealthy country that literally
bends over backwards to give you many opportunities to succeed..
Many of my helpers or "morons " are already playing the disability game with the government and they are half my age.... they are all faking it.

That seems to be something
you see a lot of here in the United States, a lot of lazy worthless people
looking for a way to get a disability check. I would not take it personally
what anyone said about my old apprentices because I have said it myself....

Also my karma is good....very good .....always has been .... and always will be.......
forever and ever.....

My apprenticeship was for 10,000 hours and 744 hours of class room studies and then I had to work under the auspices of a master plumber for a documented 10 years before being reliable to take my 4 part masters exams.

Upon passing my class A journeymen 's license I was qualified to work in every state and Canada under the UA plumbing

Plumbing is an on going education and then there is sub chapters such as gas and steam fitting and fire suppression ( I have a masters in fire suppression piping) and then of course there is heating vapor and hydronics and high pressure steam applications and sewer and drain cleaning and as a master plumber in NYC my accounts are commercial, industrial, institutional and residential including a 27 story co op

Many plumbers have these same qualifications

Calling plumbers lazy in the USA is actually not to far off the mark considering the Bama allowed all types of jerks to enter this country with no qualifications mostly from Africa. Europeans have a proven track record on quality plumbing systems

My top employee I am paying $75 PER HR in the envelope ($3,000 a week) so he is far from being lazy

I wonder how many so called mechanics from South Africa left years ago to go to OZ as I helped a few escape and get a job in oz as SA was in a heck of a turmoil in the late 1980's

I am in the mid west and you are in NYC .... totally different worlds

in this region all you can expect to hire are hill-billies and
others that have come up from kentucky to Indianapolis and think that they are now in the big city..

I can only imagine what plumbing consists of in a place like SA....
