Quebec, Canada,

Is it legal to vent through the side of the house at the top of the gable?
My vent pipe will come into the attic then out through the side(if allowed)
I am trying to avoid having to put a hole in the roof!

Thanks
Stephen

In general & in the situation you described, it’s NOT legal “to vent through the side of the house at the top of the gable.” You may, however, combine that new vent with any other already in the vicinity that goes thru the roof to outside air as you are “trying to avoid having to put a hole in the roof!” You must also check that the combined sections of vent have the capacity to carry the added load.

This is my best interpretation of the 2012 BCPC. I believe, as Terry mentioned, most plumbing inspectors would not approve a plumbing vent thru the side of the house even If it’s an existing structure.
