im trying to put a new well in sandy ground. this is only for irrigation of the lawn and garden.
i have dug down roughly 6 foot to where the ground has slight glaze of ground water pooling.

I have a metal 1.25'' 60'' point + a 10 foot pipe that is roughly 13 foot in to the ground.
when i run a tape measure in to the pipe i have roughly 4 feet of wet tape inside the 10 foot pipe(this does not include the point that has the screen inside.

now my problem is i can not pick up water. i have tried the following
-1/2 hp sears shallow well pump. with and with out a check valve. no pressure tank

-1 hp harbor freight shallow well pump with and with out a check valve.
and a
-shop vac. the shop vac wont even pull the water thats in the pipe out.

nothing is picking up water.
i have primed the pumps.
filled the well pipe with water all the way to the top.
gotten pissed alot
made tons of trips to parts supply
drank beer
read the forum
drank more beer

can someone give me some tips or pointers. im going to ask my neighbors if i can run a tape measure down there well to see how deep they are.

please ignore my half ass pump hook ups i just want to get it to pump before i close up the hole and mount the pump.

this is the point that i have. i did not look inside before i put it together. but is there some sort of screen or mesh inside the pipe that would prevent the tape measure from going all the way in to the point.

i hope this make since what i am asking

the reason i ask is im wondering if i some how busted the coupler pounding in the point and the 10 foot pipe and separated the 2 sections and maybe filled the pipe with dirt and plugging it.

update. i went to my neighbors and measured the dept of there well and it is roughly the same as mine. water is at the same level. Her well is 30 feet from mine. she doesnt use it and i tried to hook up my pump and i had no luck either. the top of her well point wasnt even wet so it is not drawing water.

i did test both pumps in a bucket of water and they both pulled and moved water.
then i tried to test the blue pump by dropping a 1'' pvc pipe into the 1 1/4 well i am attempting to hook up and it would not pull the water that is in the well. '

time for another beer

If you can fill your pipe up with water, you aren't going to pump any water out either. A well will "take" water approximately at the same rate it will produce it.

That actually one way to test a well, to run a "slug" test.

I believe you are going about this wrong.

If you suck on a straw with your finger over the end, you will not get anything to come up through the straw.

You need a check valve (foot valve) on the bottom of the 1" pipe so you can prime the pump and the pipe stays full of water. That pump will not pull up air. The pump and pipe have to be full of water before it will pump.

Ive got the pump to finally pump water. It is coming in steady and has been running for a few hours. However i am getting alot of sand/ silt.

At first power up it was all muddy water. It ran for an hour and cleared up.

But if i shut off the pump and turn it back on it starts pulling dirty water again.
I perfer not to blanket my yard with silt/ sand when watering.

Any ideas?

Let the water flow full blast for 24 hours or so. Let the silt and sand pile up in one place if you like.

That s just what happens when you are developing a well. It should eventually quit as long as your screen is not damaged or the slot sizes are not too large.
