    Boiler sizing

Thank you Dana. Hope you had a relaxing vacation that didn't involve heat load calculations :) With a new gas boiler that needs a 4" vent and a gas water heater that needs another 4" vent, how do I size the chimney liner? Do I need a Y type duct connection with 2 dampers? Or can I duct both to...

    Chimney tiles...

Thanks for the replay. Planning on a slant/fin s-60 and Rheem 40 gal gas water heater. How do I vent the boiler and water heater into the chimney? What size liner? What size duct for each? Is it a Y connection into the chimney? Do I need 2 dampers, one for each appliance? Currently it's an 8x8...

    Boiler sizing

Trying to size a new gas boiler. I have a 1,400 square foot ranch in central NJ, 08876. Hot water heat. I have 110 feet of baseboard. I multiplied that number by 600 to get 66,000 BTU. Looking at a slant/fin sentry S-90, 90,000 input, 76,000 output, 66,000 net IBR rating. Thanks guys.

    Chimney tiles...

Currently have an old oil fired boiler vented out the chimney. Replacing it with a new gas boiler, atmospheric vent and I want to use the existing chimney to vent it. Let me know what you guys think of these pics from a visual inspection after a sweep was done...

Any benefit to reducing the flue passage?

American Standard Arcoliner - Control for Domestic Hot Water

Mini's or Gas Thank you - looks like I have my work cut out for me this summer on figuring out what to do and how. Would replacing the oil burner with gas be a viable option? I know natural gas is cheap now, but who knows how long that will last. I have the gas line on the adjacent street to...

American Standard Arcoliner - Control for Domestic Hot Water

Correction Hey guys, wen I turn the dial on the low limit all the way down it's at 100, not 0 - my mistake. So low is all the way down at 100 and high is at 120. I don't hear it firing - it's been 80-90F here recently - so I will turn the high up to 150. Took a look at the cove heaters -...

American Standard Arcoliner - Control for Domestic Hot Water

Hi/Lo Limits So if I turn the low limit all the way down the boiler shouldn't cycle much to maintain temp, correct? (coil has been cut off). Right now I have the Low limit to 0 and the high to 120 for the summer. I hear it kick on a couple times a day. (don't want it to go cold for fear of a...

    Oil Tank

Hey guys, I have an oil fired boiler with a 250 gallon tank above ground - oil line fed from the bottom. Recently some oil company filled my tank without my permission. They said they can come pump it out - but I am hesitant on allowing them to do it in fear of my tank being damaged...

American Standard Arcoliner - Control for Domestic Hot Water

Old Beastie Dana, Thanks for the elaborate response. I found myself googling alot of the things you mentioned - including AFUE and the Intellicon optimizer. I'm a little hesitant to install this device only because the wiring for my boiler control looks like it was jerry rigged. To answer...

American Standard Arcoliner - Control for Domestic Hot Water

Arcoliner Hey Tom, can you explain to me how it would leak when it gets cold? Is it because the cast iron is thermally expanded when it's hot, and when it cools off will contract expose holes? Just guessing... The efficiency is 82% from our last tune-up, so I'm not going to junk it - never had...

American Standard Arcoliner - Control for Domestic Hot Water

I got an old American Standard Arcoliner oil fired boiler w/ tankless coil for DHW which we just converted to a 40 gal electric hot water heater. The coil is cut off - so no water feeds into it, the pipes have been rerouted to the water heater. However I still have the boiler on - I don't want...

Tankless Coil - which way to clean?

I have a 5gpm tankless coil in my oil fired boiler; I've come to the conclusion that it's clogged with minerals from the hard water out of my well. The cold water pressure is fine - the hot out of the coil is low. I found a guy to clean the coil for $225 (I can do it myself with a small...
