    Sewer Vent Problem?

Sewer Vent Problem Very rarely is a venting issue the cause of a plumbing problem unless there isn't one, (a vent) to begin with. I would lean towards a restriction in the drain line downstream of the bathroom that has the bubbling toilet.

    Water Heater pressure

Thermal Expansion "We do have an expansion tank or I think that is what it is. About a foot away from the hot water outlet on the heater tank" The thermal expansion tank should be installed on the cold water feed line to the water heater as per manufacturers instructions. Also, I'm...

Delta handle installation on PP stem?

Delta handle installation on PP stem Why not just buy new PP trim for the PP valve? The two brands are not interchangeable.

    Noisy Kitchen faucet

I'm trying to figure out what a "Squeels like the sound of a hot water sound" actually sounds like and why it would be "louder" at night. Make sure both shut off valves are fully opened, replacing the Moen cartridge will probably silence the squealing noise.

    Scalding Hot Water

The best way to test the temperature of the HW is from a faucet, preferably the kitchen sink or utility sink faucet. It sounds like there is an internal coil in the heating boiler to produce domestic HW, if you found the tempering valve try to adjust it. If it doesn't take an adjustment...

    Second Story Bathroom Addition

You are correct, a new drain line, (sanitary stack) needs to be brought up to the second floor to pick up the additional (new) fixtures. The stack that is there now is serving as a stack vent for the first floor fixtures.

5" inside diameter toilet flange - cast iron

Wax Gasket Although I never had this problem... Instead of reducing the (closet flange) drain opening you would be better off combining a small section of a second wax seal to another one to make the diameter larger if that's what you need to do.

    Valve sputtering noise when refilling

Contact the place of purchase if you did the install or the plumber if sh/e supplied and installed the toilet for you. It could be as simple as taking the fill valve apart & cleaning it or just installing a new one.

    Basement Gas Line Work

Very rare that a gas meter shut off valve does not hold 100%, in fact I have never seen one fail except a possible leak from the packing nut which can be easily tightened. The questions that you're asking leads me to believe that you do not have any experience whatsoever working on a gas...

    Toilet Flange Question

"I have a 12 inch toilet on a 10 inch rough in." The way I see it the problem could be corrected quite easily by installing the right size toilet for the rough-in measurement.

    Sump pump noise

Banging Check Valve When the sump pump stops pumping, the check valve should close once, you should not be able to here many thumps. This indicates that the check flap is bouncing, again possibly because of the weight of the water. I never have installed a spring check on drainage piping so...

    Sump pump noise

Is the 30 foot run outside holding water or is a gravity drain after the piping turns horizontal from the 8 foot vertical rise?. The weight of the water may be slamming the check valve shut. If this is the case, rearranging the piping could possibly help silence it a bit.

    Hot Water Heater Life Span

Make Up Air "the draft of the exhaust fans to the cooking area seems to cause negative air pressure to the hot water heater." We do quite a bit of commercial kitchen work (repair & service); diners, restaurants, schools, etc. Most exhaust hoods have a make-up air unit to help prevent the...

    Help, re boiler system

To be honest, I have never heard of any of these brands, (megaflo 95, baxi 105he, or a normal potterton suprema (he) boiler) and without being there, it is impossible to advise you on which decision to make.

    Help, re boiler system

Boiler Replacement Generally when a heating boiler needs to be replaced, the existing heating piping and radiators are not changed, the boiler itself is swapped out for the new one. I would shy away from the contractors suggesting to replace the complete heating system. Get a referral for a...
