How do I remove this shower pan/drain in basement?

The house we bought has a shower pan in the basement bathroom, but no surround. I'm planning to install a simple shower surround kit. The current pan is just held in place at the drain (it flexes and I can lift it a bit off the floor, but it stays put at the drain. It looks like the pan and the drain in the floor might be epoxied together. (I'm pretty inexperienced in plumbing if that's not apparent yet, but am fairly handy in other areas.) It looks like somebody previous might have tried to chisel them apart because the drain pipe in the floor is chipped near the top. How should I go about separating the drain pipe from the pan drain?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Collin

The pipe is cast iron, so drill the "caulking" between the pipe and the pan, or break the pan then remove the drain fitting.

What hj says.

A sawzall works well for me to cut around the drain and get a bit more access. There is normally a boxed out hole in the slab that you will need to get into.
Drill bits, sawzll, hammers, cutters,..........just some of the tools.

Great. Thanks to both of you. I'll give it a shot.
